The aim of this site is to make access to welfare internet sites easier for professionals. The editorial committee do not endorse the links listed. It is up to individuals accessing the links to use their own professional judgement to determine the validity and usefulness of information located on these internet sites. The following points may be of some use in doing this:

Don't trust everything you see on the internet.

  • Use your professional judgment to determine if it is useful
  • Check the source. Is it reputable?
  • Check the author. Do they have a history of publishing on the topic. What organisation are they from?
  • Know the subject - does the material make sense with what you already know? Cross check the information with other information on the topic. Is it consistent?

Internet information can be used in a number of different ways. Consider how you will use it:

  • Take it as fact
  • Use it to stimulate your thinking in a different direction
  • Use it as core information or as a supplement to build on existing information
  • Use it (pictures, cartoons, music) to enhance presentation and seek interest
  • Use it to develop group brainstorming

Who are you giving the information to? How will they use it?

  • Any information provided to clients should be checked thoroughly to ensure it is applicable for the intended use.
  • To assist with this read the information first.
  • Point out to clients any anomalies.
  • Discuss with clients how they would use the information.
